St Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya
St Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya which was earlier known as the English Girls’ School has a proud history of 97 years. It is situated at the urban area of Wattala and caters in three mediums, Sinhala, Tamil and English. The school was founded by Irish nuns in 1920 as a catholic missionary school. In 1980 it was handed over to the government as a secondary girls’ school. The school was managed by nuns from the beginning. Mrs. M.L.J.Ferdinandes was the only lay principal who served for a long period.

Again in 1999 Rev. Sister Eta Fernando assumed the duties as the principal of the school and after her retirement in 2005 Rev. Sister Kanthi B. Perera took the racings as the principal.

There are about 90 teachers who served for the betterment of the girls of the area and the school serves to all the girls equally leaving aside the different of caste, race and religion.

During the period of the present principal the school showed a massive progress in physical and human resources. This progress of the school paved the path to excel in education in the Wattala division.

The school has won the first place in the GCE O/L examination and in several other occasions. Moreover the school is trying to build up a well balanced personality with a blend of knowledge, skill and attitudes. Therefore the school has introduced many extracurricular activities to its students. With all these opportunities St. Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya has achieved its goal of creating young women who are capable of facing their future endeavors with a good education and practical minds through a well mannered and disciplined culture.
